Theme: Rise Above Blind
Bartimaeus.
Text: Mark 10:46-52
46 Now they came to Jericho. As He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the road begging. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48 Then many warned him to be quiet; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 49 So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called. Then they called the blind man, saying to him, “Be of good cheer. Rise, He is calling you.” 50 And throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus. 51 So Jesus answered and said to him, “What do you want Me to do for you?” The blind man said to Him, “Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.” 52 Then Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road.
Bartimaeus in his days encountered Jesus when He was living Jericho with His disciples and great multitude. Dear beloved, Jesus passes your way each day but have you been able to identify Him each time He passes? Blind Bartimaeus heard Jesus was passing likewise have you also heard of Jesus in sermons, devotional guides and the Bible. He quickly called out Jesus, identifying Him as a descendant of David, "Son of David". He understood well in the state of his condition a Messiah is promised and He will be a descendant of David to set him free from his predicament. The Christ is not just a descendant of David, but the Son of God whom the Father is well pleased with and in Him all things are possible (Matthew 3:17, Luke 3:22 and Matthew 19:26).
In drawing to the Lord, many will distract the process through discouragement, threats, and other means. Don't loose focus keep calling and draw nearer to the Messiah. For the same people discouraging you will attest the goodness of the Lord in your life.
If you come before the Lord with a request, be specific and straightforward. Bartimaeus answered, he want to gain his sight and this faith catapulted him to his miracle. Praise be to God, Christ didn't leave us orphans but sent the Holy Spirit to abide in us (John 14:15-18). You have Him in you and so you must rise above Bartimaeus to pull down demonic stronghold, wickedness and all forms of evil in your life, family, church, community, nation, place of work and wherever you find yourself. You have the overcoming grace above all limitations so make good use of it.
Prayer: Dear God, make me have the faith of blind Bartimaeus to rise up above every limitation in my life. Make me victorious and a testimony to all in Jesus name. AMEN!
