DEVOTION ~ MOUNT SINAI, A PLACE OF BONDAGE
Theme: Mount Sinai, a Place of Bondage Text: Galatians 4:24&25 24 which things are symbolic. For these are the two covenants: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar— 25 for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children— In previous devotions, we've seen the concept of Hagar being the bondwoman whereas Sarah is the freewoman. Today's text gives insight into Hagar as a symbol of Mount Sinai. A place where the children of God were under the law and obliged to obey every command thereof in the law. Hagar was helpless when she was thrown out of her master's home; so were the children of Israel weak and without the strength to keep the law as a bridge in any part of the law, renders the Israelites not worthy of keeping the whole law.
