DEVOTION ~ MOUNT SINAI, A PLACE OF BONDAGE
Theme: Mount Sinai, a Place of Bondage
Text: Galatians 4:24&25
24 which things are symbolic. For these are the two covenants: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar— 25 for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children—
In previous devotions, we've seen the concept of Hagar being the bondwoman whereas Sarah is the freewoman. Today's text gives insight into Hagar as a symbol of Mount Sinai. A place where the children of God were under the law and obliged to obey every command thereof in the law. Hagar was helpless when she was thrown out of her master's home; so were the children of Israel weak and without the strength to keep the law as a bridge in any part of the law, renders the Israelites not worthy of keeping the whole law. You can't keep part of the law, it must be wholly kept. The law enslaved and kept Isreal in bondage as Israel has no willpower to conquer the demands of the law just as Hagar cannot prevail over Sarah her madam in the issue of being sent out from the home of her son's father. What has enslaved you? Go to God in prayer.
PRAYER: Dear God, I need You to come out of every form of bondage in my family, marriage, nurturing of children, career, business, ministry, finances, education, and all areas of my life. Send forth the Holy Spirit to deliver me from any uncomfortable situation that holds me captive. Thank You, Lord, for coming quickly to my aid in the Name of Jesus Christ have I prayed. AMEN!
Amen
