DEVOTION ~ LORD OF THE SABBATH
Theme: Lord of the Sabbath Text: Mark 2:27&28 27 And He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. 28 Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.” In yesterday's devotion, we established that if we claim to abide by the laws of God but fail to meet God's intent for the law, then it is of no use. Jesus' statement in the text for consideration gives a summarized opinion of all we have looked at in previous devotions concerning His disciples violating the law of the Sabbath. The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath reveals that the Sabbath is meant to serve human needs of having a closer fellowship with God. This is where the legalistic Pharisees miss the mark as their laid-down principles do not conform to what God desires the Sabbath to be for mankind.
