Theme: Call to Repentance
Text: Joel 2:12-13

12 “Now, therefore,” says the Lord, “Turn to Me with all your heart,
With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.”
13 So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the Lord your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm.

Today marks the beginning of Lent. Lent traditionally is purposed at preparing the Christian through a journey with the Lord leading to Easter by denying oneself of pleasures of the flesh.

It is good to fast as it aids both the physical and spiritual well-being of an individual. The Lord is calling on you to turn to Him with a genuine heart. The fasting, weeping and mourning expresses your remorse for your sins. David demonstrated this well in the 51st Psalm. A penitent life is devoid of rebellion and pride. However it shows forth in humility and acknowledgement of one's sin without pushing blames on others.

The men of old usually rend their clothes to express their emotions (grieve, sorrows, regret amongst others). What really the Lord requires is a rend heart. A broken spirit yearning to be healed and reconciled to the Father. Use this Lent season to work on your relationship with God.

Don't think your sins are too great to be pardon. God is faithful and just to forgive you if you confess your sins to Him. The prophet Joel made mention of God's amazing attributes; gracious, merciful, slow to anger, of great kindness and He relents from doing harm. Take a step closer to God.

Prayer: Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting in Jesus name. AMEN!
