DEVOTION ~ THE VOICE OF DECEIT

Theme: The Voice of Deceit 

Text: Genesis 39:6-10

 ⁶ Thus he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand, and he did not know what he had except for the bread which he ate. Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance. ⁷ And it came to pass after these things that his master’s wife cast longing eyes on Joseph, and she said, “Lie with me.” ⁸ But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Look, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand. ⁹ There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” ¹⁰ So it was, as she spoke to Joseph day by day, that he did not heed her, to lie with her or to be with her.

Yesterday, we learnt about how Joseph found favour before God and for his sake, God blessed his master's businesses. We are continuing this wonderful story of Joseph to learn how to resist the voice of deceit. Joseph's master left everything in his care because he knows, he will do well in taking care of all he had. Apart from the blessings of God in Joseph's life, he was also handsome in form and in appearance. Dear beloved in the Lord, you need to be alert for the adversary is roaring like a lion seeking whom to devour (1 Peter 5:8). The form and appearance of Joseph is what the devil captilized on to get him disobey God but couldn't succeed because Joseph knew his place with the Lord.

The voice of deceit in Joseph's life, was Portiphar's wife's voice; "Lie with me". Can the body of Christ be likened to the harlot? Never! (1 Corinthians 6:15-17). There's a voice that comes to speak deceitfully to you to do the otherwise in your marriage, career, business, education, family because you have a potential no one have. Resist that voice and speak back the will of God for your life. Joseph spoke the truth of who he is in the house of Portiphar. If you know what you're about, the voice of deceit cannot take control over your life.

You're at liberty to all things but not all things are profitable to you (1 Corinthians 6:12; 10:23). Therfore, know the kind of offer you accept in life. The little pleasure will destroy your future so resist it. Identify what the Lord has kept back from you. He that is in Christ is a new creation the former has gone and the new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17). Anything that defiles you had been kept back from you by God. Don't give in to sin when you're enticed. No matter how many times the voice of deceit speaks to you, do not comprised. Day by day, she spoke to Joseph but he did not heed to her, to lie with her or be with her. Don't entertain evil around you. If you see it coming just flee. May the voice of TRUTH conquer every deceitful voice in your life. AMEN!

Prayer: Gracious Father, You're embodied with truth. I thank You for leading me in truth through the Holy Spirit. I pray the voice of deceit speaking in any area of my life be silent by the power of the Holy Spirit. I uninstall every program of the deceitful voice of the enemy manipulating in my life so as not to accept the truth of the Lord. I decree my ears will only be attentive to the voice of truth from this day forward in Jesus' name have I prayed. AMEN!
