DEVOTION ~ MURDER NOT
Theme: Murder Not
Text: Matthew 5:21&22
21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire.
We are continuing our study in Matthew chapter five and for today's devotion, we will be looking at the theme, murder not. The sixth commandment talks about murder and it reads; "You shall not murder." Murder is not limited to just taking the life of another but can also be associated with anger and bitterness. (Exodus 20:13 & Deuteronomy 5:17)
If your heart if filled with evil against others or you cause pain to others unjustly, you possess the spirit of murder. The actions you take and the hush word you used against your neighbors can kill them emotionally, psychologically and physically. Be mindful how you act or speak when filled with anger. Anger must not be mentioned amongst the Christian families, so resist it totally. (1 John 3:15)
Judgement awaits everyone after death but it will be unpleasant for the murderer and those who speak recklessly. To describe what God created hushly or offensively makes you liable in judgment. To call another empty headed or a fool, is just not an insult to the individual but also to God. Watch your ways and words that you please the Lord. (Hebrews 9:27)
Prayer: Gracious Father, take my heart and transform it to Your purpose, touch my heart that it may be renewed in Your Word. Let my actions and words be guided by Your Word that I may not bring judgment upon myself. This I pray in Christ Jesus my Lord. AMEN!
Lord please forgive me for those whom I have murdered bitterly and help me to control myself from anger not to bring judgement upon myself. Amen
