DEVOTION ~ ALARMING NEWS

Text: 2 Samuel 13:30-33

30 And it came to pass, while they were on the way, that news came to David, saying, “Absalom has killed all the king’s sons, and not one of them is left!” 31 So the king arose and tore his garments and lay on the ground, and all his servants stood by with their clothes torn. 32 Then Jonadab the son of Shimeah, David’s brother, answered and said, “Let not my lord suppose they have killed all the young men, the king’s sons, for only Amnon is dead. For by the command of Absalom this has been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar. 33 Now therefore, let not my lord the king take the thing to his heart, to think that all the king’s sons are dead. For only Amnon is dead.”



Sensing danger after Ammon was killed, the other sons of the king fled for their dear lives. However, news reached King David, Absalom had killed all his brothers. This is evident in our everyday lives, where lies are missed with the truth. It's true a murder was committed but very untrue that all the king's sons have been murdered. Wisdom must be applied when taking information from a third party. Investigate further to ensure you're being fed with the right news. 

Jonadab has also shown how crafty he is; it was his counsel that led Amnon to do what he did to his sister. As everyone was disturbed by the news, he has been able to craftily solve the puzzle. He made it known to all who were there and tried to console them. Though not at the scene, his report is exactly as it had happened. He knows how well to convince his listeners. Keeping friends like Jonadab is very dangerous for they will destroy your life.



Prayer: Dear God, help me walk in faith that false news will not move me to draw away from You. Distant my life from every crafty Jonadab that my ways will please You. This I pray in Jesus' name. AMEN!
