DEVOTION ~ THE WORSE EVIL

Theme: The Worse Evil
Text: 2 Samuel 13:16-18

16 So she said to him, “No, indeed! This evil of sending me away is worse than the other that you did to me.” But he would not listen to her. 17 Then he called his servant who attended him, and said, “Here! Put this woman out, away from me, and bolt the door behind her.” 18 Now she had on a robe of many colors, for the king’s virgin daughters wore such apparel. And his servant put her out and bolted the door behind her.

In yesterday's devotion, we looked at love or lust from Amnon's behavior after raping his sister. We continue today on the worst evil he did to her. Having satisfied his lustful desires that left him empty, he decided to drive her away since there's nothing left of her for him to have again. Tamar warned him not to send her away because it's the worse evil. Your body and  soul are what figuratively represent Amnon and Tamar. Don't allow the flesh (body) to control your soul. Avail yourself for the Holy Spirit to take charge of your soul and the body (flesh) shall be completely subdued.

Dear beloved in the Lord, a purified life is what God requires of us. Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, it must therefore not be destroyed for its consequence will be too great to bare. When evil eat into your sleeves to do the abominable, do not allow the destruction of the evil to take the best part of you (the conscience within or ignoring the nudging of the Holy Spirit). Distancing yourself from the presence of God because you've sinned will not help you. Rather, draw near to God, confess your sins to Him, rend your heart not your garment and become penitent. Bolt the door of your heart on the devil not Christ the Saviour. (1 Corinthians 3:16&17)

Tamar's robe used to adorn the virgins is a symbolism of the garment of honour the Lord puts on us when we come to Christ. Though not visible yet we each have such garment on by the enablement of the Holy Spirit. Let's work to never stain this garment but always keep it pure and holy.

Prayer: Dear God, give me a touch once again, that I may return to my first love and the Saviour of my soul. May the Holy Spirit strengthen me to submit completely to You so that I can resist the devil and blot him out forever from my life. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN!
