DEVOTION ~ THOUGH THE FIG TREE DOES NOT BUD

Theme: Though the Fig Tree Does not Bud 
Text: Habakkuk 3:17&18

17 Though the fig tree may not blossom,
Nor fruit be on the vines; Though the labor of the olive may fail, and the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, and there be no herd in the stalls— 18 Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.


This last verses of Habakkuk is concerned with his hymn of faith. The prophet's word is an enlightenment to all believers that faith is much and well exhibited in moments of nothingness. For that reason our theme for today's devotion is, "Though the fig tree does not bud". We all need to be encouraged not to give up on our faith for by it the men of old obtained a good report. We are encouraged by the hymn of faith not to give up in trusting the Lord. 

The Fig tree is a symbolism of our lives on this earth. Is your life blossom (do you have it all and lacks nothing)? Does it feel sometimes the labour of your hands isn't fruitful? Assess the fields of your life (marriage, children, family, friends, career, ministry, business, education, health, etc..) how well are your fields? No matter how unpleasant the fields of your life be, do not conclude your story, let God have the final say. The prophet Habakkuk is resolute that irrespective of how ugly the situations of life may be, His focus will be on God. 

In all the pains, loses, and unending battles, the prophet Habakkuk said he will rejoice in the Lord and will joy in the God of his salvation. Dear beloved in the Lord, it may seem the challenges of life are weighing heavily on you but do not take delight in them but in God for He will lift you above the challenges. When all things are falling, let your praise go higher to the King of kings. 



Prayer: Father in heaven in You alone is my joy complete. I'll praise You at all times whether good or bad. Spirit of the Living God, stir Your power in me that I may be strengthen through my pilgrim. This I ask in the name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!

DEVOTION ~ JUDGING RIGHTEOUSLY

Theme: Judging Righteously Text: Genesis 38:26 26 So Judah acknowledged them and said, “She has been more righteous than I because I did not give her to Shelah my son.” And he never knew her again. Previous devotion taught us that Tamar sent the pledge Judah gave her to him to identify the owner. Upon receiving the items Judah acknowledged his wrong. Judah did not allow pride or ego to cloud his judgment but rather pointed to the role he played in leading Tamar to take such a drastic step to get pregnant. Dear beloved in the Lord, don't be quick to point people's wrong without considering yours. Let us learn from Judah to never push blame to others if we are guilty. Let us Pray: Almighty God, forgive me for employing the full rigour of the law on defaulters but failing to in my own case. Grant me sound judgment to act righteously. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
