DEVOTION ~ ONE FLESH
Theme: One Flesh
Text: Genesis 2:23-25
23 And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” 24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
The presentation of Eve to Adam instituted marriage; man leaves his parents to be joined to his wife. Adam embraced his wife with profound words expressed out of love and a sincere heart. He said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh". He recognized Eve takes his nature (she is a human being). He was also quick to name her woman expressing she was taken out of Man. His expression is well understood in Apostle Paul's epistle - Ephesians 5:28&29; So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it.
The twenty-fourth verse is an expression of oneness in marriage. The oneness comes about through the consummation of the marriage. In that regard, soul ties takes effect in those who commit fornication and adultery as they become one with anyone they have become sexually intimate with; 1 Corinthians 6:16 states that - Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.” Are you one with your spouse or with the harlot? If you're one with your wife, you'll attract the blessings of God but if with the harlot, God's curse shall come upon you. Being one with your spouse eliminates secrets and so you would not be ashamed being together.
Prayer: Dear God Your desire for us is to be joined solely to our spouse (a husband and a wife). Forgive us for deviating from this beautiful union that comes with much blessings for what rather brings a curse in our lives. Open the eyes of our understanding and help us to reunite with our spouses. Help us to accept and appreciate our spouses according to Your purpose and will for us in the name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
