Text: Psalm 1:1a

1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful


The journey of life always presents choices for us but unfortunately, it never gets to choose for anyone as we are all freely allowed to make our own choices. The first Psalm enlightens us on the way of the righteous and the terrible end of the ungodly. Let's delve into the three deadly plagues of life that can be a hindrance to our blessings in the Lord. These plagues are the counsel of the ungodly; the path of sinners; and the sits of the scornful. Our focus today will be on the counsel of the ungodly.

The ungodly counsel is an evil one and takes an individual far off the path of truth. It gratifies the flesh and seems normal among sinful people but its end is destruction. Examples of ungodly counsel include but are not limited to the crafty advice of Jonadab to Amnon (2 Samuel 13); Ahithophel's counsel to Absalom (2 Samuel 16:20-23); and Jezebel's conspiracy to take Naboth's vineyard (2 Kings 21). Ungodly counselors often twist the Word of God to soothe their audience rather than for the will of God to prevail (2 Timothy 4:3&4). Be mindful of who you take counsel from because the ungodly counsel is deceitful and usurps your blessings.  


PRAYER: Father in the Name of Jesus Christ open the eyes of my understanding to discern godly counsel from the ungodly. May the Holy Spirit nudge me whenever an ungodly counsel tingles my ears to act upon it. Help me not to walk in the counsel of the ungodly. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!

DEVOTION ~ JUDGING RIGHTEOUSLY

Theme: Judging Righteously Text: Genesis 38:26 26 So Judah acknowledged them and said, “She has been more righteous than I because I did not give her to Shelah my son.” And he never knew her again. Previous devotion taught us that Tamar sent the pledge Judah gave her to him to identify the owner. Upon receiving the items Judah acknowledged his wrong. Judah did not allow pride or ego to cloud his judgment but rather pointed to the role he played in leading Tamar to take such a drastic step to get pregnant. Dear beloved in the Lord, don't be quick to point people's wrong without considering yours. Let us learn from Judah to never push blame to others if we are guilty. Let us Pray: Almighty God, forgive me for employing the full rigour of the law on defaulters but failing to in my own case. Grant me sound judgment to act righteously. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!

Do you feel you're forgotten, rejected or insecure? Dear beloved in the Lord, you're not forgotten, for God has engraved your name in His palms. Isaiah 49:16 See, "I have engraved you on the Palms of My Hands: Your walls are ever before Me". If God has engraved your name in His palms, it means He always sees or watches over you. Rise up and shake the fear and doubts off.  Declare, "I am not forgotten or alone. The LORD has engraved me in His Palms. Therefore, His eyes are fixed on me, and He protects me from the wicked. I decree all that I have is secured in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
