EASTER DECLARATION ~ DISTRESS

Theme: Distress

Text: John 19:28

28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!”

Today's devotion focuses on the fifth saying of Jesus on the cross which is taken from John 19 verse 28. The Lord's cry is a fulfillment of scripture in Psalm 69:21 "They also gave me gall for my food, and for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink".  Indeed, those who crucified Him offered vinegar instead of water to quench His thirst. On the cross, the Saviour has nailed our spiritual thirst and invites us who thirst to drink from His living fountain. He said to the Samaritan woman at the well  “Whoever drinks of this water (natural water of the well) will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life (John 4:13&14).” Our spiritual thirst can cause distress but if we lay it at the Saviour's feet we will be relieved.

Let us Pray: Dear God, thank You for the grace to draw near to Your fountain of life to quench my spiritual thirst. I accept the invitation from Your Spirit to the bride saying, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely ~ Revelation 22:17. In the Name of Jesus Christ have I prayed. AMEN!
