DEVOTION ~ THE ACT OF LOVE
Theme: The Act of Love
Text: 1 John 3:16&17
16 By this we know love because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 17 But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?
The text for today aims at explaining or defining what love is to us. Most often people try to equate love to some sort of feeling but love is not really that. Love is demonstrated in deeds and the perfect example is when Christ laid down His life for us; the innocent condemned that we the guilty ones will be granted liberty. We ought to also lay down our lives for the brethren not necessarily dying for them. What we can do is to be generous to people and support one another. Dear beloved in the Lord, the mark of love is compassion. Being compassionate towards others drives us to seek their interest and strive to live peaceably with them. A person who is not compassionate is mean and has no regard for the plight of people for he has shut up his heart from looking at others with love. Take note that he does not have the love of God in him. What do you have that you can share? Remember the boy who gave his five loaves of bread and two fishes nourished over five thousand souls. If he had withheld it back, he might even go hungry after eating but his generous spirit gave him more supply even as others also gain from it. The act of love multiplies and increases us on all sides.
Let us Pray: Thank You, Lord, for demonstrating Your love towards us while we were still sinners. Teach me to love and cheerfully help others. I break away from shutting my heart from assisting others. I declare love takes total control over my judgment in the Name of Jesus Christ have I prayed. AMEN!
