Theme: The Blessings of the Righteous
Text: Psalm 1:1-2
Text: Psalm 1:1-2
1 Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
There are promises from God for every act of good. Deuteronomy 28 is one good example of such promises. The first two verses of Deuteronomy 28 clearly states the benefits of hearkening to God's voice. The blessings shall overtake us.
Today's text comes with promises if we lead a righteous life. Let's consider each condition in the text: Blessed is the man;
~ who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly. The counsel of the ungodly are counsels that deviate from the will and purpose of God. Jezebel's counsel to Ahab has been ungodly in taking Nabboth's vineyard (refer to 1 Kings 21). The result of an ungodly counsel is murder.
~Nor stands in the path of sinners. The path of sinners is broad and slippery (Matthew 7:13). The path of sinners is full of people who lie in weight to destroy the lives of others. The canny life of the friend of Ammon in 2 Samuel 13 is an example of a sinners path. The sinners desire is to satisfy self against the agony of others. The sinner takes a path of self destruction.
~Nor sits in the seat of the scornful. The scornful's seat is a deadly seat usually that leads to a bitter end. It comprise if murmuring, pride, envy and evil imaginations of destruction. By sitting in that seat, one's conscience is under deceitful manipulations. Miriam has a share of it in Numbers 12, Judas Iscariot equally had his in betraying the savior with thirty pieces of silver. In the days of Elisha, he cursed those boys because they laughed at his baldness (2 Kings 2:23-25).
To overcome all the challenges stated above, and enjoy God's supernatural blessings, we need the Word of God which is the law given unto us. We need to have passion for the study of God's Word. It drives us to love to read it and then meditate on it. In the course of meditating, we live our lives by the Word and influence others to do same ( Deuteronomy 4:9; 6:7, Proverbs 3:1-3).
Prayer: Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight oh! God. AMEN!!!
