Memory verse: Luke 22:42
Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
Jesus is well noted for solemn prayers at the early hours of the day and at night (Luke 5:16). On the night of His betrayal, He went up to pray at Gethsemane. The lessons we can learn from this Gethsemane encounter of Jesus, His disciples and accusers are enormous.
He first instructed the disciples to pray. As believers, we need to cultivate the habit of prayer. We need to teach our children, friends and everyone around us to develop passion for prayer. The Lord said, they should pray least they enter into temptation. It's unfortunate they slept instead. Beloved, we are in the world full of evildoers. We ought to watch and pray least they lure us into evil.
The more our agony, the more earnestly we ought to pray. The prayer of Jesus should be our prayer in all circumstances. He has the power to foresee the agony ahead yet He prays only the Father's will be done. As believers, sorrows and agonies will come our way, all we need to look out for in these struggles is the will of God. In seeking His will, we are strengthened by the power of the Holy Spirit. Even if in our struggles everyone around falls asleep (unconcerned about our struggles), keep praying, seek the opinion of God concerning the issue and victory shall surely be yours.
One other thing to learn from the garden of Gethsemane, is forgiveness. When His accusers were armed to destroy His life, Jesus still showed kindness towards servant whose ear was cut off. As much as it depends on you, live at peace with all. Never repay evil with evil (Romans 12:14-21). If we fail to forgive others then the love of the Father is not in us (1 John 4).
Having confess to stay faithful, yet when the pressure was high on all sides Peter denied Jesus. However, the prayer of Jesus still speaks good tidings over his live (Luke 22:31-32). How have you denied Jesus in your life? Assess yourself today concerning the issues of your life and identify the places you're denying God access into. Keeping this area of your life from God is not healthy. He's ever ready to listen to you. Confess it to Him, for He is faithful to forgive you (1 John 1:9).
