Theme: The Detestable and Abominable Deeds
Text:  Proverbs 6:16-19

16 These six things the Lord hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
17 A proud look,
A lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood,
18 A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil,
19 A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren.

The Lord created us in His image and to have dominion over all created things. As we take dominion, we need to be mindful of the conduct we put up. There are behaviours that are not acceptable or pleasing before the Lord so he detests them and are to Him an abomination. Likewise, in our human settings, these behaviours are disgusting.

Let us identify these abominable behaviours:
Proud look: undermining people come from pride. It is ungodly to think of yourself better off  than others. Once this thought begins to crept into your mind, you need to reassess your life. Pride led to the fall of Nebuchadnezzar (Daniel 4:30-33).

A lying tongue: The word of God is truth whereas the devil's words are deceitful. There's no human being who is pleased with lies. Lies compound troubles than give relief. Most people when asked why they lied would have a funny excuse to give. An example is Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5:1-10.

Hands that shed innocent blood:  in some way or the other, the actions and inactions of some people lead to the killing of innocent souls. David shed the blood of Uriah the Hittite and the Lord was displeased with his action (2 Samuel 11).

Hearts that devise wicked plans:  the heart of Jezebel is a heart a Christian should not have. A heart that plots evil and accomplishes it is an abomination. In 1 Kings 21, the evil work of Jezebel in taking Naboth's vineyard is a pure example of a heart that device wicked plans.

Feet that are swift in running into evil:  How quick do you give approval to evil schemes? Judas Iscariot, hasten to betray the Messiah without giving a second thought to his actions. It was too late when he realized he has messed up (Luke 22:1-6;47-48).

A false witness who speaks lies: witnesses are needed to help resolve challenging situations, but if a false witness comes to testify he complicates issues. The accusers of Jesus Christ could not produce any truthful evidence. Their accusations were false and they crucified the Lord unjustly. Have you also testified unjustly before?  Ask the Lord to forgive you.

One who sows discord among brethens: Discord can arise out of all the above listed abominable behaviours. Have you become a fly around people?  You carry every information  you hear and spread it without analyzing the outcome of your gossip. Beware, this is abominable before God and man. Repent and strive to be a builder of homes.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me this day. Teach me to detest what You detest and grant me grace to cherish what You love so as to present my body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable in Thy sight. AMEN!
