Theme: The Fall of a Warrior
Text: 2 Samuel 11:1-5
Memory verse ~ 2 Samuel 11:1
It happened in the spring of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the people of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem.
Our Dispensation requires of us to be watchful for the days are evil. The text today, will be studied in this vein. A warrior does not give excuses when there is a battle to fight. David's troubles began when he failed to identify the season he was in and being where he ought not to be. Beloved in the Lord, do you know the season you're in? How do you respond to fellowship programmes? Do you give excuses to skip the prayer time, fasting, revivals, vigil, Bible Study, and other spiritual events? Selah! You need to reassess yourself today.
The devil strives hard to fine opportune times in our lives to strike by stealing our focus, killing our knowledge and destroying our understanding (John 10:10). He got David, a man of prayer off guard, he could get you if you're not watchful. David often walks on the roof and likewise Bathsheba takes her bath there but there hasn't been any contact but something changed on that day. Thanks be to God, the devil's strategies has been exposed to us (refer to John 10:10 and earlier text on that above). Three things the devil did:
David arose not to look for woman, but he's concerned about the welfare of his warriors even though he knew they were leading the battle victoriously. This is because, it's unusual of him to be home for he is a man of war. As he thinks, the devil sets in with a distraction; a woman taking her bath. David's focus is switched now unto a woman instead of the war. Have you also been distracted by contrary views in attempt to carry on the Good News? After the devil stole David's focus, then he killed his knowledge.
It is an abomination for a warrior to lay with a woman while his fellow warriors are in battle. It can lead to defeat and David so knew well. But because he had been distracted, his knowledge on this has been killed. This made him to start inquiring about Bathsheba and sent for her. Sin can be very enticing but it's result, very deadly. You need to study the Word of God to overcome the canny tricks of the devil.
Having usurp his knowledge, the devil finally destroyed David's understanding. David committed adultery and it never occurred to him, that is another man's wife and the Lord detests it (Exodus 20:14). When sin entices you, it ceases You from reasoning in the perspective of the Lord least you repent.
Prayer: Dear God, strengthen me as a warrior in Your Kingdom. Lead me not into temptation but deliver me from all evil. AMEN!
