Theme: The Veil of Evil
Text: 2 Samuel 11:14-27
Memory Verse ~ 2 Samuel 11:18-21
18 Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war, 19 and charged the messenger, saying, “When you have finished telling the matters of the war to the king, 20 if it happens that the king’s wrath rises, and he says to you: ‘Why did you approach so near to the city when you fought? Did you not know that they would shoot from the wall? 21 Who struck Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? Was it not a woman who cast a piece of a millstone on him from the wall, so that he died in Thebez? Why did you go near the wall?’—then you shall say, ‘Your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.’ ”
In correcting an evil, an evil should not be used as it only compounds to troubles. David assigned Joab to position Uriah at where the battle is fierced so he would die then the shame of his adultery will be covered.
Secret sins always lay bare before God. Nothing is hidden from His eyes. What secret sins are you indulging in? Though it isn't known to man, you can't hide it from God so repent from them. Taking a life, causing pain or sorrows to others should not be the lifestyle of a Christian. You must never allow such evil veils be used by you or others.
Uriah did not die alone, but other warriors as well. If you're unconcerned about others, their troubles will soon be yours too. Joab lost some brave warriors and that's why he was careful to report to David, Uriah has also fallen to the sword. As leaders, doing the right thing and pleasing God should be our utmost desire than being corrupted by evil schemes.
All that David did displease God. Whatever you are doing which is not of God, you need to put an end to it. The command is to love others as Christ loves you (John 13:34-35).
Prayer: I ask for a pure mind and heart towards others, that Christ will be seen in all I do in Jesus name. Amen!
May the fruits of the spirit manifest in our lives.
