Theme: The Place of Honour
Text: Luke 14:7-14
Memory Verse ~ Luke 14:10-11
10 But when you are invited, go and sit down in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes he may say to you, ‘Friend, go up higher.’ Then you will have glory in the presence of those who sit at the table with you. 11 For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Our journey on this earth is coupled with events. We are often invited to these events to either perform a role or just to witness. These events include wedding, christening, graduations, funeral amongst others. The joy of accepting these invitations often cloud us such that our focus is to be there and be seen by all present as a significant factor to the occasion. Beloved, be careful where you position yourself before the start of the program.
Humility brings honour. A man who fails to humble himself ruins his own life. Proverbs 25:6-7 put it's as, "6 Do not exalt yourself in the presence of the king, And do not stand in the place of the great; 7 For it is better that he say to you, “Come up here,” Than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince, whom your eyes have seen."
Being asked to give your seat away, or asked to sit at a place lower than where you chose before, can dishearten your full participation during the program. You might even leave before the program comes to an end. Beloved, your joy will be extinguished. To prevent the embarrassment, hold on to humility. This is not to say, be late to events to avoid any form of embarrassment rather, it's a caution to you to be mindful how you exalt yourself before the start of the program. Don't look down on other guests. Associate well with them before, during and after the program. It can open doors for you in life.
Hosting programs is good but who are your guests? You are admonished this day to invite the poor and needy too. There's a reward that awaits you for doing so. You will also be honoured in the resurrection of the just.
Prayer: Purge out every element of pride in me o God. And teach me to be humble in life so as to come into Your place of honour in Jesus name. AMEN!
