Theme: Profitable for Use
Text: Jeremiah 13:1-11
Memory Verse ~ Jeremiah 13:8-11
8 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 9 “Thus says the Lord: ‘In this manner I will ruin the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem. 10 This evil people, who refuse to hear My words, who follow the dictates of their hearts, and walk after other gods to serve them and worship them, shall be just like this sash which is profitable for nothing. 11 For as the sash clings to the waist of a man, so I have caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to cling to Me,’ says the Lord, ‘that they may become My people, for renown, for praise, and for glory; but they would not hear.’
A nation who rely on God is never put to shame. Likewise, anyone who rely on God shall not be put to shame. The Lord used a sash to illustrate how ruined we will become without Him. A sash is an adornment however, if it is not kept well, it's beauty will soon face away and will be unprofitable for use.
Beloved in the Lord, you can't build yourself up without the presence of God. Christ admonished us in Matthew 5:13-16 that we are the salt of the earth and if we loose our saltiness, we will be of no significant use but to be thrown away and trampled underfoot. He equally said, we are the light of the world and can't be hidden so we ought to let our light shine before men that they may give glory to God. The verse 7 of today's text says, "7 Then I went to the Euphrates and dug, and I took the sash from the place where I had hidden it; and there was the sash, ruined. It was profitable for nothing." A Sash bought at a price, is the Christian purchased with the blood of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 6:20). You'll will become unprofitable if you're not used for what you ought to be used for. You're to proclaim Christ to the world and shine as light. If you decide to hide yourself from this responsibility because you don't want to be harmed, you'll surely loose your life. For Bible says he who tries to save his life will loose it but whoever loose his life for Christ's sake will find it (Matthew 16:25, 10:39).
You're an adornment that must cling to God. If you fail to, your pride will be ruined as your life is lived by your own dictates rather than the will of God. You're a chosen generation called forth to show God's excellency (1 Peter 2:9-10). Be of profitable use in the House of God.
Prayer: Abba Father, I humbly come this day surrendering my whole life to You. Strengthen me to cling to You as a sash around a man's waist and use be profitably for Your glory even now and forevermore in Jesus name. AMEN!
