Theme: Pride Goes Before Destruction
Text: 1 Samuel 17:43-44
43 So the Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. 44 And the Philistine said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!”
The proud pronounce their own doom even before the doom approach them. The uncircumcised Philistine Goliath thought he had it all because of his stature. His pompous words led to his death. Indeed pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall (Proverbs 16:18). The weapon of the devil that destroys the human race is pride. Pride is of the devil and you're not his candidate so you must not avail yourself for pride. The fall of Lucifer in Isaiah 14:12-17 explains further what pride can do to you; 12 “How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations! 13 For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation. On the farthest sides of the north; 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’ 15 Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, To the lowest depths of the Pit. 16 “Those who see you will gaze at you, And consider you, saying: ‘Is this the man who made the earth tremble, who shook kingdoms, 17 Who made the world as a wilderness and destroyed its cities, who did not open the house of his prisoners?
Dear beloved, pride is a satanic weapon which you must destroy with the Word of God. Goliath has no difference from Lucifer's characteristics. He asked David the anointed king of Israel (1 Kings 18), if he is a dog that he was approaching him with stick? Hey! Be mindful of your utterances. Indeed he died like a dog.
The anointed one can't be cursed. Goliath's pride didn't make him noticed that. Avoid using ill words on your fellow brothers and sisters in the Lord. The Holy Spirit dwells in them (1 Corinthians 3:16) so you're only calling the Spirit to a fight which you can't win.
The oil of anointing makes you untouchable so declare your life can't be given to the birds of the air or the beasts of the field. Knowing who you are makes you overcome the pompous words of darkness.
Hallow the name of the Lord and ascribe all your blessings to the Lord. Submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee (James 4:7).
Prayer: Dear God, take me through the school of humility. Let every yoke of pride be broken and let me serve You in all purity and holiness in Jesus name. AMEN!
