Theme: Be Mindful of Your Promises
Text: Mark 6:22-26
22 And when Herodias’ daughter herself came in and danced, and pleased Herod and those who sat with him, the king said to the girl, “Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you.” 23 He also swore to her, “Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half my kingdom.” 24 So she went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask?” And she said, “The head of John the Baptist!” 25 Immediately she came in with haste to the king and asked, saying, “I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.”
26 And the king was exceedingly sorry; yet, because of the oaths and because of those who sat with him, he did not want to refuse her.
In life, you either learn from your own mistakes or others. Either ways give experiences that guides you as you journey on this earth. One thing you need to keep in mind is, never be quick to make promises when you're unsure the outcome of the promise.
Herod never thought the daughter of Herodias will request the head of John the Baptist. His focus was on possessions, but it took a different turn when the young girl was misled by her mother. Dear beloved in the Lord, when you're before people, don't let pride take control over you to begin to make promises you can't keep.
In very circumstance, think twice and ask God's opinion before you commit yourself to the situation. The Holy Spirit will give you a nudging when you are going off the will of God. He'll repositioned you in the rightful path to walk on.
In giving counsel, make sure you don't give counsel that won't bring honour to God's name. The little girl has no need of John the Baptist's head and so handed it to the mother (Mark 6:28). If you give evil counsel, it will hit you back.
Prayer: Most gracious Father, help me with the right words to speak at each given moment. Help me to desist from vain and evil promises in Jesus' name. AMEN!
It is true that we should be guided by our thoughts.thanks.
