DEVOTION
Theme: Are You an Overcomer?
Text: 1 John 5:4-8
4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 5 Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
6 This is He who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth. 7 For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. 8 And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one.
The world is full of struggles. It takes grace to sail through it with ease. The poor man complains of his troubles, the rich man is not spared either. Both have their own reasons to lament. However, there's a place of rest and it's this place that one can overcome his struggles in life. This place is the pasture or field of Jesus Christ. The psalmist knew this well that's why he wrote, He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside still waters and restored my soul (Psalm 23:2-3a).
You can only have Jesus if you believe in Him as the Son of God. If you're baptized in Christ, then you're born of God and has overcome the world through faith in Jesus Christ. In sickness, failure, misery, pain, childlessness, lost of job, and all the sorrows you can mention, you can best overcome it by faith in Christ Jesus.
Christ was baptized by John the Baptist and He as well suffered the death on the cross. His very last word is, it is finished. His blood speaks good tidings over our lives and brings liberation. This testimony of His glory is witnessed in heaven by the Triune God; God the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. On the earth is the Spirit whom Christ as assured will come, the baptism with water and the blood shed on calvary.
The Saviour of the world is able to make you overcome every storm of your life if you believe in Him. You don't need to bring bulls or rams, all you need is your faith in Jesus Christ.
Prayer: Dear God, thank You for the grace of victory. I pray my faith grows stronger each day that I will confidently share my testimony of victory with others. In Jesus name have I asked. AMEN!
Amen
