DEVOTION ×~ BREAK ME LORD!

Theme: Break me Lord!
Text: Psalm 119:106-109

106 I have sworn and confirmed that I will keep Your righteous judgments. 107 I am afflicted very much; Revive me, O Lord, according to Your word.
108 Accept, I pray, the freewill offerings of my mouth, O Lord, and teach me Your judgments. 109 My life is continually in my hand, yet I do not forget Your law.

As we come to the Father in worship, all He ever desires of us is a contrite spirit. When you affirm your faith in the Lord in baptism to follow Him faithfully to the end, be informed it won't ever be a rosy road. There'll be ups and downs. Don't always desire for the ups, make time to also seek the downs and that's where your lifting will come through.

The psalmist says, he has sworn and confirmed to keep the Lord's righteous judgments. In the same manner have you also surrendered to Christ never to go back into darkness. But are you really fulfilling this calling? The pleasures of life often cloud your mind and sense of reason such that, anytime you are on your knees to pray, you only ask for blessings upon blessings without a yearning to know the Lord or suffer for Him. Yes, many of us dare not pray the Lord to be broken. However, there's beauty in being broken by the Lord.

"I am afflicted very much", says the psalmist. Dear beloved in the Lord, the journey of faith comes with afflictions. It is through these that your brokenness comes to play. Job lost all he cherished and constantly prays to be preserved (Job 1&2), David was broken to learn adultery and murder is detestable by God so he prayed for forgiveness and God's restoration (2 Samuel 12; Psalm 51), Peter had a share of his brokenness after denying ever knowing the Lord (Luke 22:54-62), the Apostle Paul was broken on the way to Damascus to pursue the Christian (Acts 9) and many believers also were broken. It is in the brokenness that revival is birth.

You can only ask for revival in the heat of being broken. No wonder the psalmist cried aloud for the Lord to revive him after making know how heavy his afflictions are. The revival is where the lifting takes place. Do you desire the lifting? Oh mine! Can hear you say yes! But that's not so easy, it comes with pain. You need to empty yourself and be ready to accept the Lord's grooming which many around you might assume is stupidity (1 Corinthians 1:18-31).

Don't just pray without understanding, mean every prayer you pray for it is a freewill offering to the Lord. Then you'll learn of His judgment and entrust your life in His care not thinking of yourself but ever Ready to serve Him and abide in His precepts for life (Romans 12:1-2).

Prayer: Dear God, thank You for making known Your ways to me today too. I pray You help me to understand and yearn for Your brokenness. Stir this desire in me that You will use me as You desire in Jesus' name have I prayed. AMEN!
