DEVOTION ~ THE CHRISTIAN LIFE
Theme: The Christian Life
Text: Romans 12:14-16
14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.
In the dispensation of the Apostle Paul, persecution of the believers was very rampant. He encouraged his fellow believers in the Lord not to curse their persecutors. His admonishing is based on the perfect example of our Lord Jesus Christ and the wonderful experience he had of Stephen when he was being stoned to death (Luke 23:34; John 20:22-23; Acts 7:59-60). He understood from there that, the foundation of the Christiandom is built on love and forgiveness. In our dispensation we equally face persecutions in our cummuntiy, workplace and even in our family for choosing to serve God. Don't curse your persecutors, rather bless (pray) for them so the Holy Spirit can work on them and win them to the Light.
As a child of God, you need to meet the needs of all. When your neighbors are rejoicing, rejoice with them; when a child is being christened, marriage ceremony, graduation, birthdays amongst others you ought to be present. In the same manner, when sorrow engulf them, you need to be there to comfort them for the death of a love one, natural disasters, attacks and other distressing issues. It implies, you must be there in their moment of smiles and weeping.
Playing the above role shapes your mind to be in tune with the brethren. You must have the same mind in Christ Jesus in carrying out duties in the vineyard, family, community, workplace and in your nation. Having one mind that, we are all members of Christ's body and cohiers, we will stop being pumpous over others. We will also welcome others opinions and seek to strive for God's will to prevail in all matters. Bad company corrupts good character, so do well to associate with people with good moral standards in the Lord (1 Corinthians 15:33). The Christian life is one you must not compromise with.
Prayer: Gracious God, I appreciate the insight of Your Word. Help me to walk the talk of the faith I've profess in Christ Jesus. Strengthen me to shake off every weight and excuses that prevents me from living according to Your purpose. I ask the Holy Spirit to have His own way in my life in Jesus' name. AMEN!
