DEVOTION ~ GODLY MEDITATION

Theme: Godly Meditation
Text: Philippians 4:8-9

8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

Meditation is good for everyone both physically and spiritually. The more you meditate, the more you understand yourself and everything therefore around you. Due to the quest to possess power, position, fame, attention, love, money and earthly things, you're more likely to have thoughts that do not please the Lord. The meditation that is godly and acceptable is what the Apostle Paul has outlined in today's text of consideration.

As a child of God, your meditation should focus on things that are; true, noble, just, pure, lovely and of good report. These are virtues that distinguish you from the people of the world and worthy of praise to the glory of God's name. Let's take these virtues and elaborate on them.

TRUE: The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is purely built on truth. If you need to meditate, on things that are true, then you need to read more about Christ and His saving grace (John 14:6).

NOBLE: Knowing who you are is important in life. If you're in Christ Jesus, then you're a chosen and it qualifies you as coheir with Jesus. Heirs are of royal decent and nobles belong to the royal courts of which you are. Never undermine yourself or allow anyone to. So, Paul's caution to Timothy not to allow anyone despise his youth should be your focus so you can go about your duties in confidence (Daniel 1:3-4; 1 Peter 2:9; 1 Timothy 4:12).

JUST: Giving a good judgment is a result of what you meditate upon. If you feed your thoughts with wicked schemes, you'll never give a just judgment. A corrupt soul is mean and perverts justice. If you want a good standing with God, then you ought to focus on how to let justice prevail (Leviticus 19:15; Psalms 37:27-29; 106:3; Proverbs 24:24-25; 29:7; Romans 14:13)

PURE: The kingdom of God does not entertain filth or sin. Your thoughts should be on living a chaste life than unchaste one. Flee from ungodly thoughts for they are not pure. Feed your thoughts with purity as you've been sanctified for a divine purpose (Matthew 5:8; 1 Corinthians 6:11; Hebrews 10:10).

LOVELY: If your thoughts towards your neighbors are not of love, then you've disqualified yourself as a child of God. God is love and He wants you to be filled with love (1 John 3; 4:7).

GOOD REPORT: Don't be quick at spreading false information. Your words to others should be encouraging and comforting. If you can't then remain silent (Isaiah 61:1-3).

The Apostle Paul has demonstrated these characteristics and urged the believers to do same. You're the Paul of your home, community, nation and the world at large, is your meditation in line with what has been stated? If it is contrary, then amend your ways.

Prayer: Dear God, I come before Your presence for the renewal of my mind. My thoughts have been evil and of no good report. Give me a touch today for Your Word says, if I'm in Christ then, I'm a new creation. Make me a new creation especially with my thoughts and heart in Jesus' name have I asked. AMEN!
