DEVOTION ~ GOD'S NOT DEAD!
Theme: God's not Dead!
Text: Psalm 115:2-9
2 Why should the Gentiles say, “So where is their God?” 3 But our God is in heaven; He does whatever He pleases.
4 Their idols are silver and gold, The work of men’s hands. 5 They have mouths, but they do not speak; Eyes they have, but they do not see; 6 They have ears, but they do not hear; Noses they have, but they do not smell; 7 They have hands, but they do not handle; Feet they have, but they do not walk; Nor do they mutter through their throat.
8 Those who make them are like them; So is everyone who trusts in them. 9 O Israel, trust in the Lord; He is their help and their shield.
Sometimes, storms hit the believer so hard that, those of the world in ignorance ask questions they shouldn't even dare asked; "So where is their God?" The psalmist gave a good response, "But our God is in heaven; He does whatever He please". Yes, the fact that a believer goes through the storm doesn't mean our God is dead. He's alive and active and has said in Isaiah 43:1&2 that; "But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you." It implies our God abides with us in all circumstances and never forsakes us. So if we fall seven times we will rise again (Proverbs 24:16-18).
But what's the fate of these unbelievers who are asking where our God is? They put their trust in idols they've made with their own hands. They really put in great artistic work in making these idols but unfortunately the idols are lifeless. They have mouth but can't speak; Eyes but can't see; Ears but can't hear; Nose but can't smell; Hands but can't touch or feel; Feet but can't walk. In totality, their senses of taste, sight, hearing, smell, touch or feeling are inactive. If these idols have no senses then they are lifeless and has no power to save. No wonder the Philistine gods bow before the Lord's Ark of Covenant: "2 When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon and set it by Dagon. 3 And when the people of Ashdod arose early in the morning, there was Dagon, fallen on its face to the earth before the ark of the Lord. So they took Dagon and set it in its place again. 4 And when they arose early the next morning, there was Dagon, fallen on its face to the ground before the ark of the Lord. The head of Dagon and both the palms of its hands were broken off on the threshold; only Dagon’s torso was left of it (1 Samuel 5:2-4). Our God is mightier than their idols.
Those who put their trust in the idols, are not different from the the idols they worship. They are also lifeless because the life of Christ is not in them. God's ever Ready to deliver anyone who's ready to follow Him from the hands of the wicked. So trust in the Lord and He will protect you spiritually and physically in all circumstances.
Prayer: Thank you My Creator and God. I'm grateful You created me in Your image and have given me the power of the Holy Spirit. Forgive me for the idols (money, fame, phones, career, just name the things that takes God's place in your life) I've created all around me. Cleanse me and strengthen me to trust solely in You knowing perfectly that, You're not dead but alive in Jesus' name have I prayed. AMEN!
Amen.
