DEVOTION ~ JOY IN TRIALS!
Theme: Joy in Trials
Text: James 1:2-4
2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.
4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
Trials have both negative and positive sides, the taste (soar/sweet) of it depends on how you handle it. Most often, when you make yourself a victim of a trial than a victor, you're likely to experience the negative sides of trials which will cripple you and won't be able to overcome the trial. Usually, telling people your problems is good but it's better to look up to God with the problem and seek godly counsel from matured Christians. This approach will make you able to stand tall in the trial and become a victor.
James is admonishing us to count it all joy when we as believers fall into various trials. As our Saviour Himself has gone through the pain of the death on the cross and endured it, so must we also be prepared to go through trials. If He wasn't spared, then we won't be spared either (John 15:18-27 & Hebrews 12:1-3). It is in the trial that you can come out us a victor if you look at it positively. Trials test your faith and trust in God. You need to understand who has the ultimate power in your life: whether God or the trial. If it is God, you'll never waver in your faith however, if it's the trial, your faith will never be firm in the Lord. What tests your faith in the trial is what you do as you wait on the Lord for deliverance. The waiting room births your level of patience.
Patience teaches you not to fret or be anxious. It guides you to understand what the perfect will of God is for your life. Patience also helps you to be able to trust God and as well understand what trial you're passing through and how you must handle the situation. In doing these, patience will have its perfect work in your life. This firmly roots you in your faith with God. Even in the pain, you'll confess victory and healing in the Lord. The result of this positive side is that, you no longer look at the trial, but the Conqueror (God) of the trial and He will make you perfect and complete (whole) by equipping you in the Holy Spirit to lack nothing. Yes, you will lack nothing if the Lord is your Shepherd. He will always come through for you at the point of your need (Psalm 18:2; 23; 34:10; 84:11; Matthew 6:33; Ephesians 3:20 & Phillipians 4:19).
Prayer: Dear God, my heart is filled with joy concerning Your power that delivers in trials according to Your Word. Help me to have this inner peace and joy whenever I am going through trials. Make me victorious and a conqueror in all trials. I asked all these in Jesus' name. AMEN!
