DEVOTION ~ SWEET WORDS!

Theme: Sweet Words!
Text: Proverbs 16:24

24 Pleasant words are like a honeycomb,
Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.

When your day begins with sweet words from those around you, it has positive effect on your day's performance. Likewise unpleasant words ruin the day's performance. It's therefore important to speak good and sweet words to your family, friends, neighbors, colleagues and anyone you come into contact with.

Pleasant words are like honeycomb. Honeycomb contains honey. Honey is sweet so must your words be as a child of God. This does not warrant you to utter sugar-quoted words to deceive others. But rather send the gospel of peace to all: Comfort the sorrowful, encourage the weak, empower the feeble, and show kindness at all times.

Your timely kind word to a brother or sister will bring healing, it can even save a soul from suicide. If you fail to watch over your words, you're more likely to traumatize others emotionally and psychologically. Avoid rumors and gossips, you can never take back your words after uttering them, so be careful how you speak to a situation. An anonymous wise Southern woman once said, “It’s always best to stop and taste your words before you let them pass through your teeth.” Yes, if you can taste your own word, you will be able to tell if it will be pleasant when used on you or not before you utter it to another.

It's only by the power of the Holy Spirit you can utter sweet words to others. Make time and study the Word of God. The knowledge of the Word, equips you to know the right word to say at any given moment. You'll be deceiving yourself if you can't have good control over your words and continually hurt others (James 1:26).

Prayer: Dear God, I'm grateful for Your word on speaking sweet words to others. Help me to taste my words before I speak in my family, community, workplace, nation and in the world. I pray the Holy Spirit gives be divine utterance at all times and empower me to deliver them accordingly to those it needs to get to. This I have asked in Jesus' name. AMEN!
