DEVOTION ~ BETHEL ~THE HOUSE OF GOD

Theme: Bethel ~The House of God 
Text: Genesis 28:16-19

16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.” 17 And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!” 18 Then Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put at his head, set it up as a pillar, and poured oil on top of it. 19 And he called the name of that place Bethel; but the name of that city had been Luz previously.



Just like Jacob, most people have no knowledge of existing in the House of God. The Holy Spirit resides in us for we are God's own temple (1 Corinthians 3:16). In the dispensation of king David, when the Holy Spirit hasn't made his body the temple of God, in one of his psalms, he said, "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever (Psalm 23:6)." He had hope of dwelling in the house of the Lord forever and this is true of us as we are already dwelling in house of the Lord through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Dear beloved in the Lord, God is in your temple, make it clean all the time. You're a gate way to heaven having confessed Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour. His righteousness is now upon you.

The kindled fire in you must not go out. It is for this reason you must always be alert in prayer. The stone which served as a pillow to Jacob, he has now poured oil on to call the name of the Lord. When you follow Jesus, you need to chanel all your request to the Father through Him (refer to 20th July, 2020 Devotion on Jesus, our rock for more explanations). The house of God is a house of prayer and so you must acknowledge your body as such (Matthew 21:13). Don't give room to the devil to manipulate you into doing what's contrary to God's plan for your life. Make your body a Bethel wherever you find yourself.

There is a new name on you as a Christian. This name is Bethel (You're the House of God). With all the riches and blessings just like Luz, those things can't really define who you are in Christ Jesus. The best definition of you can be given only through the Holy Spirit who dwells in you. With your new name, make your body, a house of prayer (every moment in your life must be a Bethel hour). 


Prayer: Dear God, I thank You for making my body Your House. Forgive me for not keeping it well according to Your perfect will. I pray for forgiveness and ask that the Holy Spirit stir up prayer in me at all times. I pray for spiritual awakening in every sphere of your life even now and forevermore in Jesus' name have I prayed. AMEN!

DEVOTION ~ JUDGING RIGHTEOUSLY

Theme: Judging Righteously Text: Genesis 38:26 26 So Judah acknowledged them and said, “She has been more righteous than I because I did not give her to Shelah my son.” And he never knew her again. Previous devotion taught us that Tamar sent the pledge Judah gave her to him to identify the owner. Upon receiving the items Judah acknowledged his wrong. Judah did not allow pride or ego to cloud his judgment but rather pointed to the role he played in leading Tamar to take such a drastic step to get pregnant. Dear beloved in the Lord, don't be quick to point people's wrong without considering yours. Let us learn from Judah to never push blame to others if we are guilty. Let us Pray: Almighty God, forgive me for employing the full rigour of the law on defaulters but failing to in my own case. Grant me sound judgment to act righteously. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!

Isaiah 49:16 See, "I have engraved you on the Palms of My Hands: Your walls are ever before Me". If God has engraved your name in His palms, it means He always sees or watches over you. Rise up and shake the fear and doubts off.  Declare, "I am not forgotten or alone. The LORD has engraved me in His Palms. Therefore, His eyes are fixed on me, and He protects me from the wicked.
