DEVOTION ~ JESUS, OUR ROCK OF LIFE!

Theme: Jesus Our Rock of Life!
Text: Genesis 28:10-12

10 Now Jacob went out from Beersheba and went toward Haran. 11 So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. 12 Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.

Each passing day of our lives gives us a dawn and twilight (dusk). Most often, the dusk becomes scary and insecure if we don't know where to lay our heads to have a blissful sleep. This is the case of Jacob the supplanter whose journey is met with dusk. Far from home and all alone, he decided to sleep on a ground he knows nothing about. Dear beloved in the Lord, you may find yourself in this situation one way or the other. Do you allow the fear in you to take away your sleep or you'll find a rock and lay on?

Jacob knows best from his training at home that God watches over his own and won't let them to the will of their adversaries. He therefore picked what's available there to lay his head on - a rock created by God who is his Guide and Protector. Jesus Christ is the Rock of ages and upon Him did sleep the weary spirit of Jacob. When the troubles of life overwhelms you and you come to a state where it's all dark without hope of help, look to Jesus. Lay your head on Him and He will reveal mighty things to you. Trust Him just like how Jacob believed his sleep will be sound if he lays on the rock to sleep.

The dream of Jacob, foreshadow the reconciliation of man to God and having a divine access into God's glory to and fro. Jesus said, He is the way, the truth and the life, no one goes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6). The angels are assigned divine purposes on earth to carry out (Daniel 9:20-23; 10:12-15). Mankind wants God to hear his cry for help. All these are made possible only through Jesus (the ladder that touched the earth and the heaven). It is for this reason He told His disciples, whatever you ask in My Name shall be granted to you by the Father (John 14:13-14). May your request before the Lord be answered speedily. Receive angelic visitations even as you read this Devotion and be empowered to know the plans of God for your life. The Rock of life is Jesus, make Him your pillow whenever you're heavily loaded with burdens and blessings of life so He can lead you to the Father.

Prayer: Most gracious Father, You've been a resting place to me from the time of my conception to today. Help me to lay on Your Word in joy and in sorrows. Make me trust You wholeheartedly even if life issues challenges me. May I faithfully lay on Jesus My Rock and Refuge all the days on my life. This I ask in Jesus name. AMEN!
