DEVOTION ~ FAITH VERSUS TRADITIONS
Theme: Faith Versus Traditions
Text: Galatians 2:11-13
11 Now when Peter had come to Antioch, I withstood him to his face, because he was to be blamed; 12 for before certain men came from James, he would eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision. 13 And the rest of the Jews also played the hypocrite with him, so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy.
Our redemption is purely based on faith and not a measure of traditional doctrines. The Jews were given laws that bound them before the Messiah was born. However, after His work on the cross, the reconciliation of man to God lies in believing in Him (John 3:16). The early years of the Apostles was faced with this challenge as the Jews want to use the previous law to draw the Gentiles to the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Apostle Peter carried out his work with the Gentiles effectively in the absence of the Jews but once they were around, the laws of the Jews have upper hand over him. It is for this the Apostle Paul rebuked him. Dear beloved in the Lord, most Christians have the attitude of the Apostle Peter where the traditional doctrines of their denomination supercedes the liberty in Christ Jesus. If you defend your traditional doctrine above the message of Jesus Christ, you need to reassess your relationship with the Lord.
In this dispensation, it's not the traditions that will save us, rather its faith in Christ Jesus. Let's drop the denominational fight and promote Christ for He is our Redeemer. Our sermons must be Christ centered and not to tell others our denomination is better than theirs. We are all one body in Christ. We complement each other so let's put an end to the Jewish-Gentile argument. Faith conquers every argument in Christ Jesus.
Prayer: By Your mercies and grace, I've been redeemed from the yoke of the law which I couldn't fulfilled so my fathers before me. I'm grateful for this opportunity for it takes faith in You for me to be saved. I pray the Holy Spirit to teach me to put aside every unnecessary argument that scatters the body of Christ. Help me to know, I'm one with all Christians. In Jesus' name have I prayed. AMEN!
