DEVOTION ~ IS YOUR BOASTING IN PLACE?
Theme: Is Your Boasting in Place?
Text: 1 Kings 20:11
11 So the king of Israel answered and said, “Tell him, ‘Let not the one who puts on his armor boast like the one who takes it off.’ ”
Each day of our lives is a battle in itself. We battle with our health, finances, enemies/opponents, marriage, education, career amongst others. There's the need to plan well and carry out every strategy effectively in order to win. Some people resort into believing they will come out of the battle with ease because of past victories or the qualities they have. That's the Ben-Hadad attitude which must not be a part of us (1 Kings 20:1-3;10) .
With all the threats of Ben-Hadad, the king of Israel sent an applauding message which is our verse of consideration today. It's not a bad idea to celebrate or boast of your victory ahead, but don't over exaggerate it. If you're now preparing to face the battle (putting on your armour), don't boast like someone who has already conquered his/her battle (taking off your armor). He/she who has conquered, has a story to tell about how the battle went and how he/she has been able to fearlessly face his/her giants. However, he/she who is preparing for battle has no idea what lies ahead. In the game of football, my little knowledge is that, even a team's victory is not determined hundred percent on past glories.
So, instead of taking pride or boasting, do the needful that will help you to win. If it's health battles, seek medical attention and take your medicines as prescribed. In financial issues, assess your income level and your rate of expending. In dealing with your opponents or competitors, always look out for good competitive advantages. Face the battle of marriage with humility and love. To excel academically, study more and avoid procrastination. In your career, do well to improve yourself to meet the required qualifications at all times for the job you desire. Pride goes before a fall so be mindful how you boast. If you'll have to boast about your battles, do it in the Lord and all things shall fall in place for you.
Prayer: Dear God, forgive me for boasting in all I do. I pray Your mercies to teach me to trust You and direct every victory to Your name. Help me to walk in humility with You and grant me victory in all things in Jesus' name have I prayed. AMEN!
Amen.
