DEVOTION ~JESUS IN THE FATHER
7 “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.” 8 Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.” 9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. 11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.
In yesterday's devotion, we learnt Jesus is the way, truth and life. His form and nature has been made known to as. In today's study, we will be looking at who God is to us in Christ Jesus. Once we accept Jesus, God becomes our Father. He is one with Jesus Christ and so if we know Jesus then we know the Father too.
Philip desired to know the Father and that's sufficient for him. We must also have this desire to be sufficient with God in our lives. If we have the Father, we have everything. To know the Father, we need to establish a relationship with Him. That's why Jesus' response to Philip must be our concern as well. Most of us have taken the name Christian but have no knowledge of who the Christ is in the name we loved to be called. Bearing the name is not a guarantee of belongingness until we establish a relationship of knowing more of Christ and desiring to be like Him.
The message of Christ is from the Father. He has accepted to carry out every duty from the Father even the embarrassing death on the cross. His authority is from the Father that's why, in sending the disciples out, He said; "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me (Matthew 28:18)." The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run into it and are saved. Likewise the name of Jesus is above every name in the heavens, earth, and the seas. By the mentioned of His name, every knee must bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. Jesus is the Father, believe Him and follow Him into His everlasting Kingdom.
Prayer: My Father and Lord, I thank You for revealing Yourself to me. Forgive me for not giving You the first place in my life. I pray the Holy Spirit teach and guide me to seek Your Kingdom and its righteousness. May this be sufficient for me in all circumstances as Your grace is sufficient in my weaknesses. I break loose from any power of pride, envy, ungratefulness, murmuring, (etc... List what's weighing you down spiritually) that's draining we spiritually. This I ask in the Mighty name of Jesus. AMEN!
Amen.
