DEVOTION ~ A MERRY HEART!

Theme: A Merry Heart
Text: Proverbs 15:12-15

12 A scoffer does not love one who corrects him, nor will he go to the wise. 13 A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken. 14 The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness. 15 All the days of the afflicted are evil, but he who is of a merry heart has a continual feast.

A merry heart makes one healthy whereas an unmerry heart creates lot of ill-health issues. Being merry does not require of you to scoff others. Scoffering is detestable by God and so the psalmist even wrote, blessed is he who does not sit in the seat of the scornful (Psalm 1:1). When you take delight in mocking others, you often see those who correct you as unfriendly. But that isn't so it rather reveals you're unwise and so won't seek good counsel.

The pleasure you have in mocking others won't make your heart merry. Your folly will lead you into trouble and you'll experience sorrow thereby having a broken spirit. The foolishness you're feeding on is what will bring you down. However, the wise will have a cheerful countenance because of his/her merry heart. This comes from an understanding heart of giving reference to God. He/she fears God and so will acquire wisdom in all things. Dear beloved in the Lord, fear God and do his will. Forsake the ways of the scornful and love God (if you love the Lord, you will obey His commands - John 14:23-24).

Do you desire to see good and be happy or you want to afflict pain on yourself? If you choose the later, it means evil has its dwelling with you. Evil men will surely be afflicted by their own evil. On the other hand, if you select the former, you will continually feast in your heart. Make your heart merry by becoming wise (the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom - Proverbs 9:10). A merry heart ensures your total spiritual, physical and emotional well-being.

Prayer: Thank You Lord for the knowledge of Your Word. I pray for the awakening of my spirit to response to Your Word in obedience. Take away my folly O Holy Spirit of God and have total control of my being. I pray for a merry heart so I'll have a cheerful countenance all the days of my life in Jesus' name have I prayed. AMEN!
