DEVOTION ~ THE POWER OF NAMES
Theme: The Power of Names
Text: Genesis 5:28-29
28 Lamech lived one hundred and eighty-two years, and had a son. 29 And he called his name Noah, saying, “This one will comfort us concerning our work and the toil of our hands, because of the ground which the Lord has cursed.”
The birth of a child always comes with jubilation and the wonderful thing attached is naming of the child. Many give names to their children to recall past events, to wish the child well in life or otherwise, and others also speak into the future of the child. Lamech was fully grown when he had his son. At our dispensation, medical professionals will say, a person at the age of one hundred and eighty-two will have difficulties having babies. However, it's at this age Lamech had his son.
Lamech named his son Noah. He has considered well the happenings of their time: toils in labour and desired that shouldn't be the lot of his child. He therefore hope the name he had given his son will bring comfort to his son and those around him. Have you also considered why your parents named you as such? Why have you also named or are planning to name your child? Don't just pick names without meaning or understanding to give a child. Do well to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to help you select the names to be given to your children.
Noah means comfort and when he was fully grown, the Lord comforted him and his household by preserving them from the destruction of the flood. Lamech understood the ground has been cursed by God due to man's disobedience. However, this same God is also able to have mercy on the human race if we acknowledge Him as God and seek His glory. Lamech has really laid a good foundation for his son, Noah to have a relationship with God. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations and he walked with God. That was why God saved him and his household (Genesis 6-9). Giving names to your children to bring good tidings comes with responsibilities to draw them to God who is able to accomplish the purpose of our desires. May the Lord strengthen you to nurture every child in your care in the Lord.
Prayer: Abba! Father, by Your Word Adam named everything you created. Thank you for the names given me. Help me to fulfill the names only according to Your perfect will. If there are hidden evil agendas to the names I've been given, I plead the blood of Jesus to destroy those evil programs. I speak positively into my name that, I shall see the glory of God revealed in me in the Mighty name of Jesus have I prayed. AMEN!
AMEN 🙌🙌🙌
