DEVOTION ~ LIVE IN PURITY

Theme: Live in Purity
Text: 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8

Finally then, brethren, we urge and exhort in the Lord Jesus that you should abound more and more, just as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God; for you know what commandments we gave you through the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God; that no one should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you and testified. For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness. Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.

The Christian life is defined by our way of life. This way of life should entail purity and we must yearn more of it each day. The Apostle Paul admonished the church to abound more and more in this kind of living so Christ will be seen in us. Sexual sin often contaminates the purified life we ought to live. In as much as we try to lift up our spirit with the Lord, we need to also work on the body (the tent of the Holy Spirit) to make the body and spirit in us have the mind of Christ continually.

We have been set apart (sanctified) for divine assignments here on earth. Sexual sin defiles our members and brings the wrath of God our way so we need to heed to the Apostle Paul's warning to abstain from sexual immorality and also keep our bodies pure. We must be mindful the imaginations we create, the things we watch and hear so as not to allow them play their negative repercussions in the way we live our lives. If we defile the temple of the Holy Spirit, God will destroy us too for He is the avenger of all things (Jeremiah 23:10;14; 25:5-6; 1 Corinthians 3:16-17).

Our calling is to come out of filth (sin) and enter into the holiness of God in Christ Jesus. Dear beloved in the Lord, it is right here on earth we can accept or reject Christ. If you reject Christ here, there's no hope for you but if you accept Him on this earth, your hope and life is endless as He will be your life and light for the rest of your life into eternity. May the Lord's purity take root in you and manifest in you in your personal and public life (Matthew 10:33; Luke 10:16; John 12:48;  1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 & 1John 2:23).

Prayer: Father in heaven, I thank You for the grace of Your purity in me. I pray You forgive me for allowing sexual sins: lust, fornication, adultery, musturbation, porn watching, sexual talks to create jokes, etc. Cleanse me from these sexual sins and let Your Holy Spirit use me to proclaim Your purity in deeds and in words. Increase my desire for purity, more and more daily so I'll never stain my garment of purity. This I ask in Jesus' name. AMEN!
