DEVOTION ~ SERVE FAITHFULLY

Theme: Serve Faithfully
Text: 2 Kings 22:3-7

Now it came to pass, in the eighteenth year of King Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan the scribe, the son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam, to the house of the Lord, saying: “Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may count the money which has been brought into the house of the Lord, which the doorkeepers have gathered from the people. And let them deliver it into the hand of those doing the work, who are the overseers in the house of the Lord; let them give it to those who are in the house of the Lord doing the work, to repair the damages of the house— to carpenters and builders and masons—and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the house. However there need be no accounting made with them of the money delivered into their hand, because they deal faithfully.”

Yesterday, we studied on how to serve with dignity. King Josiah served his nation in accordance to God's will not changing to the left or right. Today, we will look at serving faithfully. To be faithful is to be trusted not to do the otherwise in discharging duties or responsibilities.

King Josiah ensured that, the House of the Lord is renovated as it wasn't in good condition. He developed an attitude of team work and building trust with those he worked with. We need to also cultivate this habit of king Josiah. Like Hilkiah, we must be displined with finances of our family, workplace, ministry, etc. It must be kept well and used effectively and efficiently to the glory of God.

In one way or the other, we are entrusted with money or resources to work with. Do we use them as required or we seek to satisfy ourselves first before carrying out the duty? The workers mentioned in today's text: overseers, carpenters, builders and masons in our world today, are the people contracts are assigned to. The king instructed they should not be made to render account because they deal faithfully. Can that be said of us in terms of the budget we prepared, the expenses incurred, and the balance left after the contract is done?

Dear beloved in the Lord, you don't need contracts to be faithful in serving. The little money or resource trusted in your hands as a maid, wife, husband, child, teacher, pastor, business partner, CEO, manager, nurse, doctor, etc must be well accounted for. Don't serve to outwit people, you can't outwit God. You'll account to God on the day of judgement. In whatsoever you find doing, do well to serve faithfully to the glory of God (Colossians 3:23-25).

Prayer: Dear God, I know I've not been faithful in the things You've entrusted in my care. Forgive me and cleanse me from pride, greed and cynical spirits. I pray the love of Christ teach me to serve faithfully as I'll account to You someday. I pray the spirit of faithfulness manifest in me whenever I'm faced with issues that will lead me to compromise my faith. This I ask in Jesus' name. AMEN!
