DEVOTION ~ SPIRITUAL REVIVAL

Theme: Spiritual Revival
Text: Psalm 119:33-40

33 Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes, and I shall keep it to the end.
34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your law; Indeed, I shall observe it with my whole heart. 35 Make me walk in the path of Your commandments, for I delight in it.  36 Incline my heart to Your testimonies, and not to covetousness.
37 Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, and revive me in Your way. 38 Establish Your word to Your servant, who is devoted to fearing You. 39 Turn away my reproach which I dread, for Your judgments are good.
40 Behold, I long for Your precepts; Revive me in Your righteousness.

Revival is a spiritual awakening and desire to draw near to God and walk in His will. A thirst or hunger to know more of the Lord and His ways is the birth of spiritual revival. That's when we come before God to seek to know Him well and not to ask for material needs. The psalmist in today's text really is desiring more of God and less of himself.

He asks God to teach him His statutes so he can keep it to the end. The study of the Word of God will give us insight and understanding of the laws of the Lord. We will know what pleases the Lord and walk according to His will. We can best walk in His will if we have delight or love for the Lord. That's why Jesus said, if you love me, keep my commandments. The commandments are all summed up in love.

Once we have the  love of the Lord, we can incline our heart to testify of God's unfailing love and mercies in our lives. A grateful heart does not envy but is satisfied or content with what he/she has. This extinguish the spirit of covetousness (the greed of desiring what belongs to others). Weathless things will not entice us as we will be revived in the things of the Lord. Let's devote ourselves in the things of the Lord so we don't incur His wrath. Our desire in this dispensation should be to long for the Lord's precepts and to be revived in His righteousness. May the Lord revive us in His righteousness as Christ Jesus is our Righteous Branch.

Prayer: Stir in me O Lord the desire to draw near to You. Awaken my heart, mind and spirit in Your righteousness. Take my eyes off every weathless thing that does not allow the flow of Your spiritual revival in me. Revive me O God in Your way that I may serve faithfully even as I await Your great day of return. This I ask in Jesus' name. AMEN!
