DEVOTION ~ I AM THE LORD'S SERVANT

Theme: I am the Lord’s Servant
Text: Luke 1:34-38

34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” 35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing will be impossible.” 38 Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

The servant of the Lord is not a slave but a free born who is at liberty to make choices. Unlike the servants of the world who suffer in the hands of their masters, those in the Lord, enjoy divine blessings. When you surrender to the Lord as His servant, yours is to obey Him and do His will. The angel obeyed the Lord by delivering the message to those it was to reach. Mary also did not reject or disrespected the angel but humbled herself.

She only inquired the possibility of her being pregnant. The difference between her response and that of Zacharias is, she has not for once in her life as an ordinary woman, encountered the visitation of the Lord. However, Zacharias has experienced it couple of times. When a child asks question ignorantly, answers will be given to educate him/her but, an adult must reason well so as not to ask irrelevant questions.

The birth of Christ came about through the  power of the Holy Spirit, so He is the Son of God. His nature is spirit filled and influenced. This should be how every Christian must be. Christ has already asked of the Father to send the Holy Spirit who is with us now. When you avail yourself to serve the Lord, the Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Highest will overshadow you. You will therefore not live a worthless life, but a holy one because your deeds will produce the Fruit of the Spirit. The power of God upon you and your family breaks every curse, limitation, ridicule, and every predicament that is suppressing the family's growth.

There's nothing impossible with God. In serving Him, your response to His calling should be,  “Behold the servant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to Your Word.” You'll never miss the blessings that come with being a servant of the Lord. Serve the Lord and always keep in mind the Lord's word in Luke 17:7-10 especially the tenth verse; "So you also, when you have done all that you were commanded, say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty.’"

Prayer: My Master and Lord, I thank You for engaging me as Your servant. I ask for forgiveness for not serving as excepted of me. Help me Spirit Divine, to submit to Your will and perform my duties faithfully. I pray the blessings of serving in Your presence fall fresh on every field of mine even now and forevermore in Jesus' name have I asked. AMEN!
