DEVOTION ~ LEND TO THE LORD

Theme: Lend to the Lord
Text: 1 Samuel 1:24-28

24 Now when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bulls, one ephah of flour, and a skin of wine, and brought him to the house of the Lord in Shiloh. And the child was young. 25 Then they slaughtered a bull, and brought the child to Eli. 26 And she said, “O my lord! As your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to the Lord27 For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition which I asked of Him. 28 Therefore I also have lent him to the Lord; as long as he lives he shall be lent to the Lord.” So they worshiped the Lord there.

Hannah promised she'll only go up to Shiloh when her son, Samuel is weaned. When that time came, she did kept to her word and sent the child to shiloh. She did not go to Shiloh with just the child but brought items of offering to the Lord. We must learn not to go to the Lord's presence empty handed. However this does not imply if you don't have offering you should not go for fellowship or service.

Testifying of God's mercies helps to open doors for more blessings. She made known to Eli who she was and the child she's dedicating. God answers our prayers according to His own will and time. We must therefore understand that, if what we desire is not in God's plans for us, it will never materialized. If we force our way to have it, it won't bring positive or glad tidings our ways.

She made known God granted her petition for a child therefore she's lending the child to God. Dear beloved in the Lord, everything at our disposal comes from God. He owns all things as Creator, Giver of life and Sustainer of everything in nature. To Lend to the Lord is to handover your substances to serve God and humanity. Samuel is to become useful in the house of God as long as he lives. This explains the Apostle Paul's word, for me to live is Christ and to die is gain ( Philippians 1:21). What have you lent to the Lord? How useful is it to God and your neighbors? If you've not lent anything to the Lord yet, it's time to declare your assets and lend them to God. May the blessings that comes with lending to the Lord never missed you in every sphere of your life.

Prayer: The Lord who owns the world and everything in it, You deserve to be praised for You owe no one even if we lend our belongings to You. Grant me this understanding that I am just a custodian of the resources You've blessed me with, so that I can cheerfully give it out for Your glory. This I pray in Jesus' name. AMEN!
