DEVOTION ~ PETITION GRANTED
12 And it happened, as she continued praying before the Lord, that Eli watched her mouth. 13 Now Hannah spoke in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk. 14 So Eli said to her, “How long will you be drunk? Put your wine away from you!” 15 But Hannah answered and said, “No, my lord, I am a woman of sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor intoxicating drink, but have poured out my soul before the Lord. 16 Do not consider your maidservant a wicked woman, for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief I have spoken until now.” 17 Then Eli answered and said, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition which you have asked of Him.” 18 And she said, “Let your maidservant find favor in your sight.” So the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad.
In yesterday's devotion, we learnt Hannah made a vow to the Lord so must we also do with the resources at our disposal. Today, we will look at her petition to God. Prayer is a means of communicating with God or putting petitions before God for approval. Ideally, Christ taught us to pray in our closet than making it a public spectacle.
Having made a vow, now she puts her petition before God in a sober manner. She prayed from her heart not shouting to be heard. In the same vein, when we bring our petitions before God, it should not be done in pride or arrogance. Prayer or petitions must be done solemnly.
As dear beloved children of God, we must not be filled with wine but rather the Holy Spirit. The infill of the Holy Spirit equips us to walk in faith not by sight. We are more able to pour out our souls before the Lord. We are not afraid to be in God's presence and ask for anything if we are led and guided by the Holy Spirit. Eli asked her to go in peace and may the God of Israel grant her petition. The peace of God takes away our fears. May this peace locate every sphere of our lives.
Prayer: Prayer answering God, thank You for the prayers answered in the past, currently and in the future. I pray Your will be done even as my petition to You is being granted. This I pray in Jesus' name. AMEN!
