DEVOTION ~ VISITING SHILOH
Theme: Visiting Shiloh
Text: 1 Samuel 1:1-3
1 Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim Zophim, of the mountains of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite. 2 And he had two wives: the name of one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children. 3 This man went up from his city yearly to worship and sacrifice to the Lord of hosts in Shiloh. Also the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the Lord, were there.
It's another wonderful day to give praise to the Lord for His grace and mercies. Our devotion will focus on Shiloh and why the need to visit Shiloh annually. In the dispensation of Elkanah, he and his household visit Shiloh yearly to worship and sacrifice to the Lord.
Shiloh is a place of worship and encountering the Lord. The place of divine peace where the Prince of Peace rule. The prophecy of Israel (Jacob) was that; "The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh comes; And to Him shall be the obedience of the people (Genesis 49:10)." Shiloh here is no other than Jesus Christ.
If Jesus is Shiloh, then as dear beloved children of God, we need to draw near to Him. Jesus is very near to us than the place of worship (Shiloh) that Elkanah with his household have to travel to. We need not come to the Lord yearly but daily. We must constantly come to the presence of God to worship and give Him our sacrifice of praise. Whether as church leaders or ordinary congregants, we need to avail ourselves for God's glory. The household of Elkanah (himself, wives- Hannah and Peninnah, children) meet the priests of the Lord (Eli and sons - Hophin and Phineas) to worship. We must not serve God in isolation. We need to cultivate the habits of coming together as one family to serve the Lord. Take this moment to invite the Holy Spirit to take total control of your life so that you'll not neglect the gathering of the saints (Refer to Hebrews 10:25).
Prayer: In Your presence I come Mighty and Everlasting King. Teach me to seek You at all times. This I ask in Jesus' name. AMEN!
