DEVOTION ~ A VOW TO GOD
8 Then Elkanah her husband said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? Why do you not eat? And why is your heart grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?” 9 So Hannah arose after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the tabernacle of the Lord. 10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the Lord and wept in anguish. 11 Then she made a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.”
In yesterday's devotion, we looked at the rivalry in Elkanah's home. The tears of Hannah made him to speak out his displeasure of her attitude of childlessness: why she wept, refused to eat and grieved in her heart. He believed, his love and affection towards her is enough than children. When people do not really understand what you want in life, your worries do not really matter to them. You need to look to God who understands you better.
In solitude, we are more able to communicate effectively with the Lord. Hannah isolated herself after meals to seek the face of the Lord. In her anguish, she prayed to God and made a vow. A vow is a solemn promise to do something. She asked God for a child to rededicated back to God.
What vows have you made to the Lord? Are you keeping to them or doing contrary? When you are asking God to provide for the desires of your heart, you need to first look at the benefit it will bring to the Kingdom of God. Be it a ministry, marriage, children, career, business, or any other thing in life, you need to surrender it to God for His glory to be revealed.
Hannah desired a child but she was ready to hand the child over for God's work. This is how you must make use of the resources God blesses you with. Make a vow to the Lord today to make available your resources to provide for the church, orphans, widows, aged, sick, etc in the society. Keep to the vow and you will experience diving lifting on all sides even now and forevermore in Jesus name. AMEN!
Prayer: My Great Provider, I thank You for all You have blessed me with in life. I surrender all my resources to You. Teach me what You want me to do with them and give me the courage to do it as You expected it to be. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ have I prayed. AMEN!
