DEVOTION ~ WHEN DUTY CALLS!

Theme: When Duty Calls!
Text: Luke 1:5-10

There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah. His wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both well advanced in years. So it was, that while he was serving as priest before God in the order of his division, according to the custom of the priesthood, his lot fell to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord. 10 And the whole multitude of the people was praying outside at the hour of incense.

There's no man on earth without a duty to perform. Even the laziest man has a duty of being idle. It implies each passing moment of our lives is occupied with a task to perform. How well do you perform your duty as a leader, husband/wife, child, employee/employer, citizen, Christian, etc? It is noted from this text, Zacharias has been faithful with his duty serving as a priest. He also married a responsible wife who supports his ministry in every conduct as stated in verse six. Their challenge however is having no child but that did not prevent them from serving well. If you serve faithfully before God, you will not miss the blessings that comes with it.

Another thing we can learn from Zacharias is punctuality and dedication to duty. He did not delay to the hour of incense. If he had, the lot wouldn't have fallen on him. We need to understand that, we ought to be a little early to events than arrive just when it's about to start or worse of all coming to the program very late.

When duty calls, let all your excuses be laid aside and take up responsibility. Zacharias, did not just have the name of a priest, but he served as well. It was while he was serving that he was tasked to burn incense in the temple. Dear beloved in the Lord, what's your attitude like when duty calls? Is it a good one or otherwise? Learn from Zacharias today and begin to put things right when duty calls. May the Lord order your steps to wholeheardly serve when duty calls.

Prayer: Thank You my God and Creator, for putting me in charge of my church, family, career, country, (just name the positions you're serving). Forgive me for not being able to respond swiftly when duty calls. I pray the Holy Spirit to help me overcome the many things that keep holding me back. Teach me to understand Your ways are the best and so I must not allow what I don't have now to prevent me from doing what I have to do now. Equip me to serve faithfully. In Jesus' name have I prayed. AMEN!
