DEVOTION ~FACE YOUR BATTLES STRATEGICALLY
8 Now the Lord said to Joshua: “Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed; take all the people of war with you, and arise, go up to Ai. See, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, his people, his city, and his land. 2 And you shall do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king. Only its spoil and its cattle you shall take as booty for yourselves. Lay an ambush for the city behind it.” 3 So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up against Ai; and Joshua chose thirty thousand mighty men of valor and sent them away by night. 4 And he commanded them, saying: “Behold, you shall lie in ambush against the city, behind the city. Do not go very far from the city, but all of you be ready. 5 Then I and all the people who are with me will approach the city; and it will come about, when they come out against us as at the first, that we shall flee before them. 6 For they will come out after us till we have drawn them from the city, for they will say, ‘They are fleeing before us as at the first.’ Therefore we will flee before them. 7 Then you shall rise from the ambush and seize the city, for the Lord your God will deliver it into your hand. 8 And it will be, when you have taken the city, that you shall set the city on fire. According to the commandment of the Lord you shall do. See, I have commanded you.”
Every stage in the life comes with a battle which an individual must be prepared to face or flee. In facing the battle, there's the need to strategically position one's self well to avoid defeat. Israel made their strategic decisions with the Lord. God gave them the right technique to employ in order to win the battle. You must also seek God's direction in every battle you face in life if you intend to be victorious.
Joshua did not go to war unprepared, rather he took with him all the people of war, and sent thirty thousand mighty men of valor by night to lay ambush for Ai. If you must win the battle, you ought to move out of your comfort zone and do the extra work that will push you ahead of your adversaries. Whether you're a student, business associate or advancing the Gospel, you need to employ this technique in order to out perform others.
Another thing to learn from Joshua's strategy is to be tactical in battle. He would have just shouted or provoke Ai for them to run out of their cities. Yet, he chose silence and fled before them as though he was afraid of Ai. Don't show off before your competitors or opponents, you can only know their strategy if you learn to be calm and tactical. Every command of the Lord must also be adhere to the later. May God grant to divine wisdom in facing your battles.
Prayer: My God and Lord who trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle, receive Your praise, honour and adoration. I lay the battles of my life before Your victorious throne and ask for Your divine guide in every battle. Help me to heed Your instructions to attain victory in Jesus' name. AMEN!
