DEVOTION ~ THE PROMISE OF THE FATHER

Theme: The Promise of the Father
Text: Acts 1:4-8

And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

The Holy Spirit has been mentioned by Jesus to be another Helper from the Father to the believers before He was put to death. During His appearance to the apostles after His resurrection, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem but wait for the Promise of the Father. This Promise, is the Holy Spirit.

Our physical baptism either by immersion in water or sprinkling of water, is incomplete without the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit, adorns us spiritually to present us fully equipped for physical and spiritual growth. All it takes to receive Him is through obedience and faithfully walking with God. If the Apostles had departed from Jerusalem, they wouldn't have encountered Him. Avail yourself for the Holy Spirit to use you.

Dear beloved in the Lord, we have the Holy Spirit with us, but that does not warrant us to engage in unnecessary battles especially when God has not given approval. The apostles desired to know when power will change hands. But the Lord's reply, means, we must not focus on the recompense of our adversaries for it's totally in God's authority to decide. This implies, the Holy Spirit has not been given for us to show off but rather, to easily accomplish the Great Commission. If your desire to have the gift of the Spirit to show off, the devil will give you a counterfeited package which if you're not careful to turn to the Lord, will lead you to destruction. Begin to speak to the Lord that more of Him and less of you be seen in every step you make.

Prayer: My Father that promises and never fails, take Your glory and honor. I exalt Your Holy Name for all the blessings You've bestowed on me. I thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit. May He empower me to proclaim Christ wherever I find myself and may every thirst of vengeance in me be quenched by His power at work in me. This I ask in Jesus' name. AMEN!
