DEVOTION ~ RETAIN THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD

Theme: Retain the Knowledge of God 
Text: Romans 1:28-32

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, 
covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; 
they are whisperer, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 
32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.


In yesterday's devotion, we learnt about how the truth has been exchanged for a lie and how God gave the ungodly up to uncleanness. Today's text continues with other detestable behaviors of the ungodly. Ungodliness comes about when one refuses to retain the knowledge of God. The knowledge of God gives understanding and serves as a guide in life to live a worthy life.

However, those who refused to retain the knowledge of God have debased mind and so do things that are not fitting or morally right in society. Dear beloved in the Lord, wisdom comes from God and He gives it freely to His children (James 1:5). But if one rejects God's instructions for carnal instructions, then he/she cannot have any association with God, thereby lacking wisdom and understanding. The debased mind, sees every action even wicked and immoral living as normal. What's your perspective on evil and immoral behaviors in society? Your response determines whether you have God's wisdom or a debased mind.

The debased mind, is being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperer, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful in every action taken. These actions will lead to damnation without mercy, for the wages of sin is death. It is sinful to know good and refuse to do it. Likewise is it sinful to endorse evil deeds whether publicly or privately. 

To escape damnation and the second death, surrender to God and retain His knowledge. Give approval to deeds that are morally good and disapprove of the immoral deeds in society. This will bring life to every sphere of your life and above all divine eternal life in Christ Jesus. 


Prayer: I surrender totally to You O my God. For with You is the fountain of life. Forgive me for leading a debased life in the past. From today, teach me Holy Spirit divine to retain God's knowledge in every sphere of my life even when it seems hard to apply God's Word. Grant me wisdom to walk in the Light of God always. All these I ask with thanksgiving in the Mighty name of Jesus Christ my Lord and personal Saviour. AMEN!

DEVOTION ~ JUDGING RIGHTEOUSLY

Theme: Judging Righteously Text: Genesis 38:26 26 So Judah acknowledged them and said, “She has been more righteous than I because I did not give her to Shelah my son.” And he never knew her again. Previous devotion taught us that Tamar sent the pledge Judah gave her to him to identify the owner. Upon receiving the items Judah acknowledged his wrong. Judah did not allow pride or ego to cloud his judgment but rather pointed to the role he played in leading Tamar to take such a drastic step to get pregnant. Dear beloved in the Lord, don't be quick to point people's wrong without considering yours. Let us learn from Judah to never push blame to others if we are guilty. Let us Pray: Almighty God, forgive me for employing the full rigour of the law on defaulters but failing to in my own case. Grant me sound judgment to act righteously. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!

Do you feel you're forgotten, rejected or insecure? Dear beloved in the Lord, you're not forgotten, for God has engraved your name in His palms. Isaiah 49:16 See, "I have engraved you on the Palms of My Hands: Your walls are ever before Me". If God has engraved your name in His palms, it means He always sees or watches over you. Rise up and shake the fear and doubts off.  Declare, "I am not forgotten or alone. The LORD has engraved me in His Palms. Therefore, His eyes are fixed on me, and He protects me from the wicked. I decree all that I have is secured in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
