DEVOTION ~ THE TAKEOVER
Theme: The Takeover
Text: Acts 1:20-26
20 “For it is written in the Book of Psalms: ‘Let his dwelling place be desolate, and let no one live in it’; and, ‘Let another take his office.’ 21 “Therefore, of these men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, 22 beginning from the baptism of John to that day when He was taken up from us, one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection.” 23 And they proposed two: Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. 24 And they prayed and said, “You, O Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which of these two You have chosen 25 to take part in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.” 26 And they cast their lots, and the lot fell on Matthias. And he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
In yesterday's devotion, we learnt about Judas and how woefully his life came to an end. We are continuing today to learn more about his replacement. The prophecy of the psalmist came to past through the death of Judas and the vacuum he created which must be filled. Dear beloved in the Lord, you need to watch your ways so as not to be discredited in any way. If you allow evil in your sleeves, you will loose your blessings and lifting just as Judas.
Your position will be taken over by another. God is able to raise people who have submitted and serve diligently to occupy your position. Joseph and Matthias had been with the disciples from the time of John the Baptist even unto the Ascension of the Lord. None of them has ever contended to become a part of the twelve Apostles. Following Jesus and listening to His teaching was enough for them. As a child of God, you must also put up such attitude.
All positions in life be it in ministry, family, workplace, political amongst others must be handled by the direction of God. Inquire of the Lord who must take up the position and be obedient to God's directives. Matthias was numbered among the apostles because that was God's will and plan for the ministry. May the Lord direct your heart and mind to make the right choice in choosing leaders in every sphere of your life.
Prayer: Dear God, You who knows the intent of our hearts, help us to select the right leaders for our family, ministry, workplace and political government. Empower every leader to work diligently to the end in Jesus name have I prayed with thanksgiving. AMEN!
